Duped Independent Freaks Out Over Health Care Bill

My husband (a wishy-washy independent, who voted for Obama) and I were watching the local Chicago news, after the travesty of a bill passed on Saturday. (We don't discuss politics too often, because he thinks I'm crazy when I tell him our gov't is tyrannical.) They began the night's coverage by discussing certain tax increases and 'sin' taxes. My husband, being a freedom-loving, big brother-hating, hard-working party guy, looked at me and said, "Huh? What do they mean by 'sin' taxes?"

I simply responded, "Well, this is what you have when the gov't interferes with our Health care. EVERYTHING you do will be taxed, because EVERYTHING you do will affect the cost of Health Care."

My husband shook his head and said, "Well, I don't like this at all."

Apparently, this isn't the "Change" he voted for.

No Jihad Here, You Silly Conclusion Jumping Infidels

From Founding Bloggers:

[via Instapundit] Regarding the terrorist attack on Fort Hood, which the FBI assures us is not a terrorist attack, here is a quote allegedly from the now dead terrorist:

Mr Lee said Hasan repeatedly stated: ‘Muslims should rise up against the aggressors.’
[MORE]

CAIR says don’t blame Muslims. Well, this report from the Daily Mail raises issues, but let’s stay tuned and see how things shake out once they’ve settled down.

UPDATE: This sounds troubling:

Federal law enforcement officials say the suspected Fort Hood, Texas, shooter had come to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats.
One of the Web postings that authorities reviewed is a blog that equates suicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades.

“To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause,” said the Internet posting. “Scholars have paralled (sic) this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers.”

That’s not Jihad silly. That’s freedom fighting.

UPDATE:
From AP: Ft. Hood suspect reportedly shouted `Allahu Akbar'

FORT HOOD, Texas – Soldiers who witnessed the shooting rampage at Fort Hood that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted "Allahu Akbar!" before opening fire, the base commander said Friday.

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone said officials had not yet confirmed that the suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, made the comment, which is Arabic for "God is great!" before the rampage Thursday, which left 30 people wounded, including the gunman.

My Message For Michael Steele About RNC's Support for Scozzafava

My Message For Michael Steele About RNC's Support for Scozzafava

So, after watching the fiasco going on in New York and Newt endorsing the Liberal Republican, I am really starting to get angry with the RNC. Apparently, they are NOT listening, and are putting their party before their principals. What the hell ever happened to standing up for CONSERVATIVE VALUES???????

So I decided to send Michael Steele a message on Facebook, and here's my short note to him.
Feel free to contact him, too, and share your feelings on the RNC's support for Scozzafava.
....................................................
Hi Michael, I have been a huge fan of yours for a long time, and was thrilled when you were selected as the Head of the RNC. I thought you would be a great leader and help Conservatives reclaim the Republican Party, but I've been apprehensive about giving any money to the RNC or any Republican candidates. The reason being, is that the so-called Conservative leadership seems to be turning it's back on Conservatives. (i.e.-the New York race between Scozzafava and Hoffman race.) The Republican in the race supported the Stimulus plan?!?! How could the RNC support this candidate? I want to be proud of calling myself a Republican again, but unless the GOP supports true Conservative values, I will be voting Libertarian. As a big fan and supporter, I urge you and the Republican Party to draw a line in the sand: Do you support Conservative values, or do you support Liberal policies that undermine what our country was founded on? I know where I stand....do you?

Proud American looking for your support,
Jessica Wilkerson
Plainfield, IL

............................................................
And as for Newt Gingrich endorsing Scozzafava, although I feel he does an excellent job of articulating conservatism, his actions just don't support what comes out of his pie hole and he'll NOT get my support.

When he endorsed the Tea Party Movement, it was a pretty obvious attempt at hickjacking it for his future Presidential run.

One BIG prolem Newt....we actually stand for something. You have proven once again, that you are just another establishment Republican, who thinks giving Conservatives the usual lip service will gain you power. That might have worked in the past, but those of us who TRULY want Conservatives representing us, have had it with your ilk. I just donated to Doug Hoffman's campaign....maybe you should support Hoffman, too.

Going Soft on Sotomayor WILL NOT get the Hispanic Vote

Why is it that there are many on both sides of the aisle, claiming that going after Sotomayor would be a huge mistake? There are many in the GOP who are thinking we should pick our battles, and avoid any messy debates that could turn-off hispanic voters. There are many on the Left who are foaming at the mouth waiting for an opportunity to paint Republicans as sexist and racist, if they oppose Sotomayor.

I say, if we just roll over and ditch a golden opportunity to expose Liberals as the race-baiters that they are, then the GOP is done. By giving Sotomayor a pass, then in a sense, we're validating the Liberals claim that we are focused on race. (Even though it's the other way around.) By sticking to the issues and previous cases that expose her radical legislating from the bench, claims from the Left about racism will look phony and premeditated.

Here's a great post from the The Conservative Dominion - http://theconservativedominion.blogspot.com/2009/05/republicans-cant-stop-sotomayor-but.html :
--------------------------------------------------------------
What the Republicans can do is play hardball by focusing on how far out of the mainstream Sotomayor is on the issues of race, eminent domain, and gun control. On race, the Ricci case shows her support for race-based discrmination against white males. The Didden case shows her support for government confiscation of private property even where there is overwhelming evidence of political corruption. Her views on the Second Amendment --- gun ownership is unconstitutional --- are as radical as can be.

The game would be to make her a political liability for Obama and any Democrat that votes for her. Voting for Sotomayor is a vote for race-based discrimination, confiscation of private property, and gun confiscation. Make that vote stick to Democrats like a deer tick.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But what about the Hispanic vote?

Then President Goerge Bush and John McCain were the biggest proponents for the Amnesty Bill in 2005, and what did it get the GOP?

President George Bush appointed Alberto Gonzales to U.S. Attorney General, and what did it get the GOP?

President Bush appointed Miguel Estrada to the D.C. Court of Appeals, and what did it get the GOP?

Here's an excellent piece from the The Bulletin - Philadelphia's Family Newspaper :
http://thebulletin.us/articles/2009/05/28/top_stories/doc4a1e1cf56d3a0610508389.txt
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Maria Cardona, founder of Hispanics for a Fair Judiciary, issued a warning to Republicans saying an opposition to a Hispanic would damage their party with America’s Hispanic population.

“Republicans are going to have to tread very, very carefully on this one. They have already alienated 70 percent of the Hispanic community in this country with the whole issue of immigration,” she said.

But in 2005, Ms. Cardona, who was a consultant for the 2004 Kerry campaign, had a different attitude toward a Hispanic candidate nominated by a Republican president.“It’s not enough for the president to put forward a Latino name for the court,” she said in a July 15, 2005 Scripps Howard article in the bilingual newspaper La Prensa-San Diego. “What is important to us is that the person who ultimately gets nominated will be fair, will protect the rights of the people.”

Mr. Bush had made inroads into the Hispanic vote both times he was elected. This was something that disturbed Democrats so much that they met with activist groups such as People for the American Way and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. They were in crisis mode about Miguel Estrada.

A Nov. 15, 2003 Wall Street Journal story quoted from internal Democratic Party communications about opposing Mr. Estrada as a judicial nominee. The liberal interest groups warned the Democrats to delay Mr. Estrada’s nomination because he “is Latino, and the White House seems to be grooming him for a Supreme Court appointment.”

But the double standard thus far exhibited by the leadership of the Hispanic community does not seem to matter to them. Their reaction is the same as the black community, which is monolithically Democratic.

As Janet Murguia, president and CEO of the National Council of La Raza, said, Judge Sotomayor’s nomination was “a monumental day for Latinos.”

But La Raza’s ethnic pride did not extend to Bush’s nominee, Mr. Estrada. The organization was “neutral” about the nomination of Mr. Estrada.

For Republicans who want to heed Ms. Cardona’s warning, commentator Rush Limbaugh reminded them during his broadcast yesterday that John McCain, who championed amnesty for illegal immigrants, lost the election. He also let Republicans know that President Bush appointed many Hispanics to high level positions in his administration. It did not help them in the election.

Conversely, the first Hispanic U.S. Attorney General was a Republican. Alberto Gonzalez was appointed by George W. Bush.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it's clear that Republicans need to put on their Big Boy pants, and stand up for themselves, instead of cowering because they're afraid of offending someone. Obama obviously made this pick, because he knew the GOP wouldn't have the cajones to pick a fight.
Stand up for what's right, stop trying to pander, and for Goodness sake....what the hell do you have to lose?

Sotomayor's Socialist Yearbook Quote

I'm slightly surprised that the White House press office gave out this image, from her 1976 Princeton yearbook, in which she quotes Norman Thomas.

Norman Thomas was, of course, the leading American Socialist politician of the 20th century. Perhaps they figured it would come out eventually so they wanted to be able to say, "That's old news. We thought it was so inconsequential, we mentioned it ourselves." Or perhaps they felt that substantively didn't matter; Norman Thomas was a pretty mainstream and respected figure, as socialists went. And his quote is universal. Or perhaps they didn't notice.
-------------------------------------------------
'I am not a champion of lost causes, but of causes not yet won.'
-Norman Thomas

My Princeton experience has been the people I met. To them, for their lessons of life, I remain eternally indebted and appreciative.To them and to that extra-special person in my life.

Thank you --For all that I am and am not. The sum total of my life here, has been made-up of little parts from all of you.
------------------------------------------------
UPDATE: Gawker offers this theory: "or perhaps the White House planted it there knowing that it'd send the wingnuts into a hysterical frenzy, thereby distracting the sane wing of the party, what little there is left of it anyway, from forming any sort of cogent opposition to Sotomayor, making them all look like rabid fools in the process, just as they have each and every time they've tried to throw the socialist card on Obama in the past? Then again, maybe Obama's just so confident in his nominee that he doesn't care about trivial horseshit like her quoting a socialist over 30 years ago in her college yearbook?"

Supervisor Asks Woman To Take Down American Flag

Is it okay to show your patriotism at the office?

For one Arlington woman, the answer was "no" after she hung an American flag in her office just before the Memorial Day weekend.

Debbie McLucas is one of four hospital supervisors at Kindred Hospital in Mansfield. Last week, she hung a three-by-five foot American flag in the office she shares with the other supervisors.

When McLucas came to work Friday, her boss told her another supervisor had found her flag offensive. "I was just totally speechless. I was like, 'You're kidding me,'" McLucas said.

McLucas' husband and sons are former military men. Her daughter is currently serving in Iraq as a combat medic.

Stifling a cry, McLucas said, "I just wonder if all those young men and women over there are really doing this for nothing."

McLucas said the supervisor who complained has been in the United States for 14 years and is formerly from Africa. McLucas said the supervisor took down Debbie's flag herself.

"The flag and the pole had been placed on the floor," McLucas said. But McLucas also said hospital higher ups had told her some patients' families and visitors had also complained.

"I was told it wouldn't matter if it was only one person," she said. "It would have to come down."

McLucas said hospital bosses told her as far as patriotism was concerned, the flag flying outside the hospital building would have to suffice.

Kindred Hospital Corporate Headquarters are located in Kentucky. They have yet to make a final decision on the matter. They have not returned our phone calls for comment.

The Kindred Hospital Corporation was chosen as Fortune's most admired for 2009. McLucas hopes they'll back her patriotism.

"I find it very frightening because if I can't display my flag, what other freedoms will I lose before all is said and done," McLucas asked.

Mike Huckabee finds his Muse...

FANCY NANCY
by Mike Huckabee

Here's a story about a lady named Nancy
A ruthless politician, but dressed very fancy
Very ambitious, she got herself elected Speaker
But as for keeping secrets, she proved quite a "leaker."

She flies on government planes coast to coast
And doesn't mind that our economy is toast
She makes the Air Force squire her in their military jets
There's room for her family, her staff, and even her pets.

Until now, she annoyed us, but her gaffes were mostly funny;
Even though it was painful to watch her waste our tax money.
But now her wacky comments are no laughing matter;
She's either unwilling to tell the truth, or she's mad as a hatter!

She sat in briefings and knew about enhanced interrogation;
But claims she wasn't there, and can't give an explanation.
She disparages the CIA and says they are a bunch of liars;
Even the press aren't buying it and they're stoking their fires.

I think Speaker Pelosi has done too much speaking;
And instead of her trashing our intelligence officials,
it's her nose that needs tweaking.

If forced to believe whether the CIA and her colleagues in Congress are lying;
Or it's Speaker Pelosi whose credibility and career is dying.
I believe in the integrity of the men and women who sacrifice to keep us safe;
Not the woman who has been caught flat-footed, lying to our face.

I say it here and I say it rather clear-It's time for Nancy Pelosi to resign and get out of here.
